Ferland Mendy Transfer News: Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United are allegedly in competition to acquire Ferland Mendy
Ferland Mendy Transfer News: Spanish news site Fichajes claims that PSG is interested in signing Ferland Mendy. The Ligue 1 champions are looking to add to their left-back depth this summer. Also of interest to Newcastle United is the 27-year-old Real Madrid defender.
Ferland Mendy’s career has been up and down since he signed with Real Madrid in July 2019 from Lyon. During his first two seasons with Los Blancos, the 27-year-old was widely regarded as one of the league’s top fullbacks. However, during the last 18 months, his effectiveness has declined owing to ongoing injury issues.
The Frenchman, who has represented his country at the highest level, has been in and out of the lineup and is presently out with a muscle issue. As a result, Mendy has been limited to only 25 total games for Real Madrid this season. However, Newcastle United and PSG are still interested in signing him despite his fitness issues.
It’s expected that Newcastle United will look for a new left-back during the next summer transfer window. This is due to the fact that Matt Targett has become a bit of a part player this season and so has an unclear future at St. James’ Park. Dan Burn, on the other hand, is a defensive stalwart who offers nothing going forward.

So, it’s in Newcastle United’s best interest to look for a left-back who can improve their offence. Given Real Madrid’s stellar defence, Mendy is now an attractive option. However, PSG will provide Newcastle United with significant competition in the hunt to recruit the 27-year-old.

There is little hope that Juan Bernat will have a successful career at PSG. Although Nuno Mendes provides Les Parisiens with a long-term solution at left-back, the Ligue 1 champions still need a second left back. Therefore, Ferland Mendy should be seriously considered by PSG as a defensive reinforcement.
The current Ligue 1 champions are prepared to make an aggressive move to acquire the services of the 27-year-old Real Madrid defender. It remains to be seen, though, whether Newcastle United can overtake PSG and get the French player this summer.
