Solly March has signed a new contract with Brighton & Hove Alvion, dashing all hopes of a move to Newcastle United
Football Insider claims that Newcastle United’s pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion forward Solly March has been severely set back. After the Englishman extended his contract until 2026, Newcastle’s pursuit of him is now hopeless.
In recent months, the Brighton phenom has been the subject of widespread media attention and widespread speculation. And with the best of motives. Many Brighton players, including him, have had outstanding campaigns thus far, helping the Seagulls surprise by making the Premier League’s top 4. Just seven points separate Roberto De Zerbi’s squad from fourth-place Tottenham, and they have three games in hand.
March has had his most fruitful season ever thanks to the efforts of his Italian head coach. This season has been the most prolific of the 28-year-old’s career as he has scored seven goals and assisted four others in all competitions.
Before the World Cup break, March had gone 55 Premier League games without scoring a goal; since then, he has scored six times, including the game-winning goal in the M23 derby victory against Crystal Palace last week. And it’s safe to assume that several other elite teams have taken notice of him as well.
There have been rumours circulating that Newcastle United is keeping an eye on the 28-year-old winger. Eddie Howe had high praise for the player because of his skill, adaptability, and positive demeanour. Dan Ashworth, the sports director for the Toon, is enthusiastic about the signing since he previously worked with March at Brighton.
Brighton has stated they have locked down March to a new contract, making it “extremely hard” for the Tynesiders to agree to an agreement, as the article states. The offensive player has signed a deal in the south, with a possible one-year extension, until 2026.
For March, one of his greatest assets in recent times has also become his toughest obstacle. Because of his adaptability, Graham Potter used him all over the field, often on the left side of defence but sometimes occasionally as a full-back on either wing. Now that he’s free to fly in his preferred location, he may launch attacks while still operating under De Zerbi’s command.
Newcastle is on the lookout for a traditional workmanlike winger because they already have Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, neither of whom are good crossers of the ball, and because veteran winger Matt Ritchie will soon be a free agent and likely leave the club. Ryan Fraser is also expected to be shown the exit door come summer after falling out of favour with Howe.
March not only meets the requirements but also exemplifies the kind of player and personality that may thrive under Howe’s system. But, since he renewed his contract with Brighton, it would be difficult for any other team to lure him away. However, Newcastle will have to make an exorbitant payment or refocus its radars on new adversaries.
