It seems that West Ham United will once again attempt to acquire Terem Moffi from OGC Nice. The Irons almost signed the striker in the January sales, but lost out to the Ligue 1 club.

West Ham are reportedly still interested, along with a number of Premier League teams, as reported by Calciomercato. After missing out on a transfer to Nice, the Hammers and Southampton are at the front of the line of clubs hoping to persuade Moffi to join them.

Moffi joined the Allianz Riviera from FC Lorient during the transfer window. The loan deal included an option for Les Aiglons to acquire the player outright at the conclusion of the season. In spite of this, West Ham and Southampton will compete for his services in the next window.

Nice agreed to terms with Lorient for €30m (£26m) for Moffi, a forward with seven caps for Nigeria. To cover the cost of the loan, Les Merlus was given €2.5m (around £2m) up front. The summer of 2023 will see Les Aiglons incur additional debt of €22.5m (£20m) plus €5m (£4m) in add-ons.

However, Nice will have to pay 15% of every future transfer fee they make thanks to Moffi to Lorient. So, the asking price may go up if West Ham or Southampton decide to make a move. Moffi has already shown why Les Aiglons were victorious in their match back in January.

Moffi has contributed four goals and two assists in eight games for Nice. After scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances for Lorient, he caught West Ham’s attention and they pursued a move. The offensive player saw action for Les Merlus just in Ligue 1 this season.

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham offered £20 million plus £5 million in add-ons to secure Moffi’s departure from the club before Nice did. David Moyes met with his Irons and Les Merlus in an effort to defeat AFC Bournemouth. And yet, Les Aiglons emerged victorious on the last day of their battle.

Moyes could regret passing up on an attacker who is regarded as “a nightmare for defenders” by European football expert Kevin Hatchard in January. Nice will want to cash in on Moffi’s recent success and the conditions they struck with Lorient in order to outbid West Ham for his services.
