Olympique Marseille is allegedly willing to transfer former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi to Aston Villa this summer.
Le10Sport reports that the French giants are open to the prospect of trading the 23-year-old and that Marseille has valued Guendouzi at merely €25m (£22m), a sum that may entice Villa into action and bring Unai Emery back together with the former Arsenal misfit.
After moving back to France last year, Guendouzi‘s career has taken off. The midfielder is now a regular in the French national team and is widely considered one of the top players on Marseille’s books. His performance has gained attention of Emery.
What’s next for Guendouzi?
The Spaniard was responsible for bringing Guendouzi to Arsenal in 2019, where he immediately flourished in his first full season in England before being traded to Marseille after clash with Mikel Arteta.
Indeed, Guendouzi is the latest in a long line of players Arsenal has sold for nothing despite their evident skill and promise; now, the Gunners might be forced to pay if Villa make the move to acquire the French international, a probable eventuality if Emery’s ambitions are to be believed.
Moreover, if the story is to be accepted, Marseille is willing to selling the teenager for only £22m, meaning Villa may soon get one of the bargains of the summer, with Guendouzi developing into an amazing midfielder after returning to France following two seasons of Ligue 1 play.
During Guendouzi’s first season in the Premier League, Arsenal seemed to have a winner on their hands, but the midfielder’s falling out with Arteta meant that his future was destined to be in north London. And Villa may get revenge on the Gunners now.
Guendouzi’s performance at Arsenal improved under Emery’s tutelage, but if Villa and the 23-year-old Frenchman, who may be interested in a move back to England, can reach an agreement on a transfer soon, the Spaniard might help the Frenchman reach even greater heights in his career.
