Antonio Conte’s tenure as manager of Tottenham Hotspur seems to be winding down. The Athletic said that Spurs had already begun interviewing potential replacements for the Italian coach.

At Tottenham, they see Conte’s exit from N17 as “inevitable” at this point. The Athletic followed up with a piece exploring potential motivating factors for Daniel Levy’s huge move.

And it explored the possible succession leaders for the remainder of the season. According to the article, only Conte and Ryan Mason remain viable coaching candidates. It’s up to Levy to select who he thinks has the best shot of leading Spurs to the Premier League’s fourth spot.

It is also said that Levy would “likely be hearing out the opinions of veteran players like Harry Kane, Eric Dier, and Hugo Lloris.”

It’s too late to fire Conte, in our opinion. You’d hope that until the end of the season, at least, Kane, Dier, and Lloris would stand behind Conte as a reference since they’ve all flourished under his leadership.

The article claims that neither the team’s players nor its supporters are actively plotting a coup. It’s possible they’re disappointed, but they’re not demanding anything different.

In any case, Conte is undeniably one of the world’s finest managers. There’s a common thread that connects the failures of Antonio Conte, Jose Mourinho, and Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.

There is no need for Conte to resign at this time. After all, getting into the top four would be a source of great pride for him even if he were to leave in the summer (assuming, of course, that he genuinely wanted out as soon as possible and if he has a top-four bonus, better for his bank account too).
