After Tottenham’s 2-0 victory against Chelsea, Stephen Warnock called Emerson Royal “pathetic” for falling to the ground and trying to have Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech sent off
Sky Sports News reports that after Tottenham’s 2-0 victory against Chelsea, Stephen Warnock called Emerson Royal “pathetic” for falling to the ground and trying to have Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech sent off.
Even though he joined Spurs from Barcelona two years ago, 24-year-old Royal is now in the midst of his greatest season with the team. Against Manchester City, against West Ham, and two big outings against Fulham and Manchester City. Even against Chelsea, he was outstanding.
Ultimately, Oliver Skipp scored the game’s first goal from 20 yards out after Kepa Arrizabalaga had parried and cleared his attempt. A late goal by Harry Kane after a corner kick header by Eric Dier. Spurs snatched a fantastic victory.
But, things may have turned out otherwise. Royal rushed over and butted heads with Hakim Ziyech after an argument between Richarlison and Ziyech. He replied by shoving him, but he caught Royal in the face and the king fell down. Warnock did not like it
It’s hard to argue with Warnock’s logic. Both Ziyech and Royal were foolish to behave in that way. There was no need for him to rush over and interrupt Ziyech. All that happened was completely unnecessary. Yet, in the end, the best choice was selected.
He said: “It was embarrassing from Emerson Royal. I was so angry when I saw it. You’re on VAR, everyone can see what you’re doing. He instigates the whole thing. They way he hits the ground, why try and do that? Pathetic. I was furious.” It is unfortunate that Royal must fall for the truth to become apparent to the authorities today. The fault lies with all parties, but Warnock is correct that Royal’s fall on Sunday was humiliating to see at the professional level.
