If Roberto Firmino leaves Liverpool this summer, then the club will consider adding a new offensive player, according to The Athletic.
The Brazilian striker’s contract with Liverpool is up at the end of the season, but the club has offered him a new deal to remain at Anfield.
Liverpool will need to replace Firmino if he decides not to re-sign with the club. There are, however, indications that this will not be a high-profile acquisition.
Of course, Liverpool has a plethora of forwards like Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez already on their roster. Hence, Liverpool may not need to spend significant money on a new arrival, and a low-profile depth acquisition may be more plausible.
Firmino’s role in Liverpool’s attack has shifted since he joined the club in 2015 due to the emergence of players like Nunez, Jota, and Diaz.
Despite his recent injury problems, Firmino has played an important part for the Reds this season and is the club’s third-leading scorer with nine goals.
Ansu Fati and Mohamed Kudus are just two of the offensive players who have been linked with a transfer to Anfield in recent months by Liverpool.
Although it’s always great to see a new striker join a team, Liverpool’s need for one depends on Firmino and whether or not he chooses to remain with the club. Given Jurgen Klopp’s stated aim to retain Firmino, it’s possible that the striker market could be relatively quiet this summer. Nevertheless, as always, the player’s wishes must be respected.
