Raphael Guerreiro, a standout for Borussia Dortmund, has been red hot as rumours of a transfer to Leeds United have faded

Raphael Guerreiro, a standout for Borussia Dortmund, has been red hot as rumours of a transfer to Leeds United have faded. It was believed that the Whites will acquire a new left-back during the January window.

Unfortunately, neither Junior Firpo nor Pascal Struijk has lived up to their potential thus far. In January, there were rumours that Philadelphia Union player Kai Wagner would be moving to Elland Road, but that never happened.

The club subsequently added Maximilian Wober, a defender who can switch between the left-back and central positions. Although Wober has seen most of his playing time in the middle for Leeds, he does provide the team with a backup plan at left-back.

There have been rumours that Dortmund star Guerreiro may be a potential new addition to that position.

It was stated on TEAMtalk that Leeds was planning to make a pre-contract offer to Guerreiro. Because his contract expires at the conclusion of the season, Guerreiro was free to sign a pre-contract on January 1.

According to Dean Jones, a transfer guru who spoke with Give Me Sport in December, Leeds wanted to move fast to sign the left-back.

However, Guerreiro is making every effort to get a new contract with Dortmund despite the fact that nothing of the kind materialized in January. As February began, Guerreiro was on fire, contributing to a 5-1 home victory against Freiburg with three assists to his name.

Sebastian Haller, Julian Brandt, and Giovanni Reyna all scored thanks to assists from Guerreiro, giving Dortmund a leg up in the race for the championship.

Once again, the 29-year-old was instrumental in Sunday’s 2-0 victory against Werder Bremen, going on a driving run and setting up Brandt for the game-winning goal.

Guerreiro, who has been delivering tremendous offensive quality for Dortmund, now has four assists in as many outings. There’s still a chance Leeds may be interested after tonight’s game against Chelsea.
