Spurs are reportedly interested in acquiring Rennes defender Adrien Truffert
Spurs are reportedly interested in acquiring Rennes defender Adrien Truffert, who has been excelling with on-loan Spurs player Joe Rodon. West Ham and Everton are also reportedly interested in signing Truffert.
France, of Belgian descent The 21-year-old Truffert, a standout in Rennes’s U-21 squad, has been playing on the main team for a while now. The teenager has made 101 appearances for his hometown team, in which he has contributed to four goals and thirteen assists.
On the left side of the defense for the French national team, he is seen as a long-term solution. The teenage defender has been deemed “effective” and “reliable” by L’Equipe and France U21 coach Sylvain Ripoli.
Truffert has reportedly attracted attention from a number of clubs this summer, including Everton, Leicester, and West Ham, according to L’Equipe. Now JF says that Tottenham is interested in Truffert. It’s unclear whether that will take place this month.
Truffert has exceptional skills. You might make the case that he is a significant upgrade over Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic as Tottenham’s left-wing-back alternatives. When playing Manchester City, the latter had a tough time.
Truffert is reportedly worth £17.5 million to Rennes, according to Sempre Inter. Priced quite low considering his talent and his established status as a first-team regular in Ligue 1. What about a left-wing-back? Do Spurs truly need one this month?
Most likely not. Destiny Udogie, who spent the previous season on loan at Udinese, will be rejoining the club this summer. Perisic, however, continues to be a quality performer. Definitely a step in the right direction, but we won’t be putting any extra emphasis on Truffert anytime soon.
With just a year left on his current two-year agreement, Perisic faces an uphill battle to be re-signed by Spurs after his disappointing showing at The Etihad. If Spurs signed Truffert, they’d have a substitute player ready to go.
