Weston McKennie wants to leave Juventus but has already rejected Aston Villa
Weston McKennie, a transfer target of Tottenham’s, is “hoping” to leave Juventus this month after previously turning down a move to Aston Villa. In any case, it was Tuttosport that broke the news that Tottenham is interested in signing the American national team player.
According to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, Antonio Conte has gained a boost now that McKennie is to leave Juventus. According to the BBC, the Italian giants have recently been docked 15 points after an examination into their past transfer deals, dropping them to tenth place in Serie A.
Although Jacobs does not directly state that McKennie is disappointed by this turn of events, he does say that the American is still “hoping” for an offer to materialize before he leaves Turin.
Since Juventus had finished third in Italy’s top division, losing points this season has made it very difficult for them to qualify for the Champions League next season. So it’s easy to see why players like McKennie (who Juventus paid £16 million to acquire from Schalke 04) and others could desire to leave the club’s current home at the Allianz Stadium.
The 24-year-old has made 20 total appearances this year, in all competitions, and has contributed to three goals and two assists. McKennie was another American participant in the World Cup held in Qatar.
If no other team shows interest in signing McKennie, we think he’ll come to regret turning down Aston Villa. It would have been smarter for the American to keep his options open and not say no to the Villans when they approached him. McKennie missed out on an opportunity to play for one of England’s top teams, where he could have worked with great coach Unai Emery and teamed up with talented midfielders like Boubacar Kamara. If no other club makes a bid for the No. 8 player at Juventus before the deadline, he will seem foolish.
