While numerous top clubs, including Chelsea, have shown interest in Rafa Marin, the Real Madrid defender has no plans to depart any time soon
A new contract with Real Madrid is reportedly Rafa Marin’s top priority, as reported by AS and quoted by Madrid Xtra. And the news is bad for Chelsea, who now need to seek elsewhere to bolster their defence with this update.
Before he made it to Real Madrid, Rafa trained in academies in Alcolea, Centro Historico, and Sevilla. The 20-year-old has emerged as a key player for Real Madrid Castilla after rising through the ranks at La Fabrica. However, he has yet to make his debut for Los Blancos’ first team.
The Spanish defender had a great 2022/23 season with Real Madrid Castilla, starting 16 games and scoring twice. But now that Marin’s contract with Real Madrid has reached its last 18 months, the Blues are taking notice.
It’s certain that during the next summer transfer window, Chelsea will want to bolster their defence. Despite bringing in three new central defenders in the last year, they still struggled. Aside from signing Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana during the summer, they have also signed Benoit Badiashile from AS Monaco this month.
However, Koulibaly has been mostly underwhelming, while Fofana has had trouble staying fit. Furthermore, Thiago Silva is approaching the end of his legendary career. Therefore, Chelsea must devise a strategy for the future of the ageing Brazilian defender. As a result, Chelsea was making Marin one of their primary priorities.
The Spanish player, who is just twenty years old, has a decade’s worth of potential. Unfortunately for Chelsea, the young player is committed to finishing his career with Real Madrid. According to Madrid Xtra, Marin has made it his top priority to extend his contract with Los Blancos. Re-signing Marin might be the best course of action for the club, especially since Real Madrid is also looking to add a central defender to its roster. It will be intriguing to see who Chelsea targets after the Real Madrid defender rejected their offer.
