A move to Manchester United is highly desired by Wout Weghorst
Burnley and Manchester United are in negotiations for the transfer of Wout Weghorst from Besiktas, and the Dutch forward is appealing with his current club to let him go. Manchester United have reportedly made a loan offer to Burnley for Wout Weghorst, who is presently on loan at Besiktas. It is expected that the Dutch striker will join the Red Devils this month.
The former VfL Wolfsburg striker has been identified by Erik ten Hag as the answer to his problems in the final third. Further, the Dutchman has requested that Manchester United transfer his countryman to him for the duration of the season.
The 6’6″ striker can provide the Red Devils with the imposing presence they’ve been lacking in the last third. Since Cristiano Ronaldo has left, a true no. 9 position has become available. Midfielders Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, though, are yet to make the tally.
During his tenure at Turf Moor, Weghorst has utterly failed. However, ten Hag is certain that the 30-year-old can become a more potent attacker under his tutelage. The former manager of Ajax has worked with Rashford to improve his work ethic and other parts of his game. The manager of Manchester United is credited with having a similar impact on the 30-year-old’s career.
There was no recall provision in his loan agreement with Burnley. Thus far, Besiktas has refused to release the player. After scoring the game-winning goal against Kasimpasa, the Dutchman looked to wave farewell to the Turkish club’s fans. The veteran striker is eager to sign with Manchester United. Manager Senol Gunes, though, shed some light on the matter.
“Weghorst is an important player for us. It is not enough to say goodbye to the audience. He also needs to talk to the club. I have heard of such a development, but it is not clear. I’ll consider [him] leaving after I talk to both him and the club.”
The coaches think his winning attitude would inspire the players around him to perform at their best. The loss of Martial for the season due to injury may be devastating for Manchester United. Rashford has been in dazzling form for the Premier League powerhouses, but his arrival of Weghorst may lighten his load.
Weghorst has been working hard to close the transaction, and United is confident that it can be done in the coming days. However, if negotiations fail, the Red Devils might look elsewhere, perhaps even at Vincent Aboubakar.
