Xavi’s stay at Barcelona is under scrutiny if he fails to meet the target
Xavi revealed a crucial target that needed to be met for him to stay at FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona is in a difficult situation. Despite topping their Champions League group, the Blaugrana’s inconsistent performances and bad showing against ‘weaker’ opponents have forced head coach Xavi to face some ‘severe’ repercussions. The World Cup champion has stated that he may have to quit the club if they do not win any trophy after the season.
FC Barcelona most recently disappointed fans with a 3-2 defeat to Royal Antwerp. Xavi attempted to instill confidence in his team before their La Liga match against Valencia. However, he urged the club to maintain “stability” and pointed out that they are the defending La Liga and Super Cup champions.
However, he stated that a departure from FC Barcelona may be considered in specific situations. He did, however, leave ground for optimism. “It’s only December”. Following that, Xavi chastised the media for changing their tune.“If, at the end of the season, Barcà hasn’t won anything, maybe I’ll leave.” Xavi and company are now fourth in La Liga, seven points behind leaders Girona.

Barcelona Sporting Director Deco had a falling out with Frenkie de Jong
In the last game of Group H, Barcelona was defeated 3-2 by Royal Antwerp. The incumbent La Liga champions qualified as group winners, but only narrowly, since Porto finished second owing to a lower goal difference. Barcelona’s #21 and midfield master Frenkie de Jong did not go to Antwerp because Xavi changed his lineup before the game. Despite reports that De Jong missed the game owing to flu-like symptoms, rumors suggest otherwise.
According to a RAC1 journalist, club Sporting Director Deco questioned the Dutchman’s ‘sickness’. According to sources, Deco’scolded’ De Jong. While De Jong explained his illness, Deco responded, “What do you mean you’re sick? “Has your doctor already confirmed that you’re sick?” De Jong, Ikay Gundogan, and Ronald Araujo were all left off the team list for the match at Antwerp. A new squad list, however, included both Gundogan and Araujo, adding to the dispute.
On matchday 17 of 38, FC Barcelona will face Valencia. With the season nearly half over, Xavi and Co. will need to elevate their game if they are to retain their crown. Girona leads the league with 7 points, with Real Madrid close behind in second place. The reigning champions are fourth, with Atletico Madrid third. Xavi recently stated his desire to perform more and achieve more with the club.
