There is some mystery around Newcastle United’s reported desire to try out promising Jamaican youngster Dujuan Richards

There is some mystery around Newcastle United’s reported desire to try out promising Jamaican youngster Dujuan Richards. Every once in a while, a transfer rumor will surface that will cause certain people, both fans and employees, to take notice.

As for Newcastle United, one such rumor has recently surfaced about Dujuan Richards, a promising young player from Jamaica. As revealed by the Jamaica Observer in January, Richards was on his way to the North East for a two-week trial with Newcastle.

According to the NUFC Blog, Richards has already arrived in the UK and will begin his trial with Newcastle on Monday, February 6th.

However, Newcastle seems to be in a state of disarray; Under-21 manager Ben Dawson told The Chronicle that he was unaware of the rumors and had not been informed of Richards’ or anybody else’s presence during training.

Even if Richards’s real trial date is in the next few hours and fans are still scratching their heads, let’s take a closer look at how the Jamaican is…

Even though Richards turned 17 in November, he has already received widespread acclaim in his native Jamaica.

Coach Raymond Watson of Kingston College has said that Richards is a “fantastic talent” who “may be unstoppable” with more improvement.

Watson has called Richards, a teenager, “unique,” and the term “Whisper” has even stuck. The Chronicle reports that Richards scored 30 goals in his final season of schoolboy soccer in Jamaica.

The adolescent plays for the Phoenix All Stars Academy, the same team that paved the way for Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey in Jamaica. Craig Butler, Bailey’s adopted father and the academy’s head coach, has been cited as claiming that Richards is set to try out for a Premier League side in the top five.

Only Rolando Aarons, another Jamaican, has played for Newcastle in the Premier League, but if the trial goes well, Richards might join him.
