Several of Europe’s best clubs are interested in signing Julian Alvarez before the summer transfer market opens, which might put Manchester City at risk of losing him.
90Min reports that Alvarez is becoming more dissatisfied with his playing time at Etihad Stadium. It’s been reported that Alvarez is weighing his options since he won’t be receiving additional playing time anytime soon.
City is eager to retain Alvarez and has extended a contract offer, but questions remain over his future with the club. If Alvarez decides to go, clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be interested in signing him.
While City would seek a hefty price for Alvarez, City manager Pep Guardiola has proved in the past that he will trade players if they are unhappy. Alvarez may already be looking forward to his next move after joining City from River Plate last summer.
City’s ability to guarantee Alvarez significant playing time was always questionable. Being one of the best attackers in the world, Erling Haaland cannot be routinely benched.
With just six Premier League starts to his name, Alvarez spends most of his time on the bench. Haaland believes Alvarez can replace Sergio Aguero as City’s starting striker.
Although playing a supporting position, 23-year-old Alvarez has nevertheless scored 10 goals and added 3 assists so far this season. It can’t have been easy for Alvarez to go from being the main attraction at River Plate to playing a supporting role at City.
After winning the World Cup with Argentina, the thought of teaming up with Lionel Messi at PSG must be appealing, but Alvarez would run the danger of being overshadowed by Kylian Mbappe.
Even if a new deal isn’t in Alvarez’s immediate future, we still think he should be in City for a little while longer.
