Ryan Kent, whose contract with Rangers is up at the end of the season, is on Brendan Rodgers’ shortlist this month
According to football website 90Min, Ryan Kent, whose contract with Rangers is up at the end of the season, is on Brendan Rodgers’ shortlist this month as he attempts to sign a winger before Tuesday night’s deadline.
Kent, at 26, is still an indispensable member of Michael Beale’s squad. When Kent first joined the Gers in the summer of 2018, it was on loan, but he quickly became a regular and has since played in 205 league and cup games for the club. He has contributed to 87 goals throughout that span.
However, the ex-Liverpool player’s stint on the Rangers roster may soon come to an end. There is no telling whether he will sign a new contract before it expires in June. There are reports on 90Min that Leicester is trying to recruit Kent at the last minute.
The move comes after Leeds United turned down an offer from Leicester for defender Jack Harrison. Even if Tete of Lyon is wanted, a deal with Fiorentina seems unlikely after the club rejected a move for Nicolas Gonzalez. From Shakhtar Donetsk, he is currently on loan.
Kent would do well in Leicester. He has shown that he has the skills necessary to succeed at the highest level of English football. But would Leicester choose him to play on the left wing instead of Harvey Barnes? He doesn’t need to play here.
Maybe Rodgers considers Kent a no. 10 or thinks he has the potential to be converted into a right winger due to his adaptability. Whether the Rangers would prefer to hold him until the summer or sell him this month for a price is unknown.
There is no indication that Kent is unhappy at Ibrox; he has yet to sign a new contract, and the pressure to do so will only increase in the remaining months of his current contract. Until Tuesday, Rangers may try to drum up interest in the English winger and perhaps get a price for his services.
