Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti talks about Lionel Messi’s reported transfer back to Barcelona
Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Real Madrid, was recently questioned about the possibility of Lionel Messi returning to Barcelona. The Italian brushed off the Argentine’s actions, adding he can do what he wants.
He said: “He can do whatever he wants, Barcelona too. It’s not an issue for me. I like Messi.”
Messi’s return to Barcelona has been widely speculated. He signed a two-year contract with PSG in the summer of 2021 after leaving the Catalan club for free. The 35-year-old’s current deal with Paris Saint-Germain will end this coming summer. He seems less and less inclined to prolong his stay in the French capital with each passing day.

The Blaugrana will have their work cut out for them if they want to sign the Argentine sensation. Their financial situation is dire, and La Liga has ordered them to cut their payroll by €200 million before they can make any further additions to the roster.

Ancelotti said at a press conference that his team’s goal is to reduce their La Liga points gap. With only eight games left in the season, Barcelona is the overwhelming favorite to win the title. They now own an 11-point advantage.
The Italian, though, insists that the disparity in quality is less than the points differential suggests, and he has promised to close the deficit by any means necessary.
He said: “It’s not the real gap between the two teams. We’re going to work to cut it.”
