Argentine professional footballer – Papu Gomez gave his views on his move to Serie A side Monza prior to the current season. The player who had been a part of La Liga team Sevilla since 2021 parted ways with the club so as to make a move to Italian club – Monza during the recent transfer window.
The player explained the reason behind his move to Monza and also the cause of his rejecting the offers of joining clubs from elsewhere lately.
Gomez tells the reason for having denied the Saudi proposals
Fabrizio Romano via his official revelation let everyone know the reasons which made Papu Gomez avoid a move to Saudi Arabia during the recent transfer window. The player said that a major part of his decision to move to Monza was taken considering the consent of his family in that regard. He said,“I decided to join Serie A side Monza also because of my family as I received a proposal from Saudi…”.
Gomez also made it very clear that making a move to Saudi was never a part of his plans. He said,”“I didn’t want to take my children, my family to the middle of the desert so I decided to reject and return to Italy”.
Papu Gomez who was born in 1988 began his senior career with Argentine club – Arsenal de sarandi in 2005 at the age of 17. After having made over a 100 appearances for the club in four years, he left for San Lorenzo in 2009. A couple years later, he joined Catania in Serie A.
It was in 2014, that he joined Atalanta BC. He stayed at the club for eight long years thereon. He played 252 games scoring 59 goals during his stay at the Italian club. Midway between the 2020/21 season, he made a move to Sevilla. He played 90 matches for the team scoring 10 goals until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Monza have been in pretty good rhythm in the recent times. The side which gained promotion to the Serie A only in 2022 did extremely well last season to finish 11th in the league. With 52 points in 38 matches the team put forward a commanding performances to cement their position in the upcoming Serie A season as well.
The team’s major motto hereon will be to achieve even greater results in the league and make efforts to enter the European competitions in near future. The onus will be on the club’s new signings including Papu Gomez to help the side achieve its objectives hereon.
