Manchester United Transfer News: Manchester United has identified a replacement for David de Gea
Manchester United Transfer News: As a long-term replacement for David de Gea, Manchester United apparently has their sights set on Borussia Dortmund star Gregor Kobel this next summer transfer window.
Kobel, 25, has been BVB’s starting goalkeeper ever since he was acquired from VfB Stuttgart in 2021 for a reported £12 million. He has played in 33 games and kept 14 clean sheets, earning him praise this season.
Kobel, a four-time Swiss national team member, has been instrumental in Dortmund’s championship hopes this season. He has improved on his previous season’s total of eight clean sheets by presiding over 10 shutouts in 25 league appearances thus far.
Todofichajes reports that Manchester United will make an offer to sign Kobel this summer. They are anticipating a smooth negotiation for the custodian because of their history with Dortmund (buying Jadon Sancho in 2021).
Kobel, who is under contract at Signal Iduna Park until June 2026, is presently worth £30 million. However, Edin Terzic’s camp is not prepared to go down from their asking price in order to get the Hoffenheim Academy product.

Meanwhile, as reported by The Athletic, De Gea has turned down Manchester United’s first formal contract extension offer. Even though it seems like everyone is eager to find a workable solution, he has rejected the offer as inadequate.
De Gea, who has two months left on his contract, has taken a lot of heat for his shaky play this year. So far in 54 games, his team’s defence has 24 clean sheets and has allowed 57 goals.
For the next season, Manchester United is keeping an eye on a number of other outstanding goalkeepers. In the recent past, they have been often connected to players like Diogo Costa, Andre Onana, Jordan Pickord, Emiliano Martinez, and David Raya.
David De Gea was awarded the Premier League’s Golden Glove despite being a target of much criticism. In the Red Devils’ 35 games this season, he has had 16 clean sheets.
