Manchester City want the £12m Chelsea star

According to football.london, Chelsea has no plans to sell Mateo Kovacic this summer. Manchester City, current holders of the Premier League title, are interested in signing the Croatian international.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been linked to a potential exit from the club at the conclusion of the current campaign. Whether or not this problem is going to be remedied soon is still up in the air. Kovacic has been an integral part of Chelsea’s success. And they will be significantly weakened by his departure. N’Golo Kante’s future at Chelsea is also in doubt after this season. In the summer, the Frenchman may sign with any team he wants.

Jorginho was transferred to Arsenal from Chelsea in the January transfer window. They’ll need a number of new midfielders at the end of the season. Whether or not Graham Potter will approve of the Croatian international’s exit is still unknown.

During the month of January, Chelsea broke their transfer record by acquiring Enzo Fernandez. Yet, they will need to replace Kovacic with a quality partner at the conclusion of the season. Romeo Lavia, a midfielder for Southampton, is said to be a transfer target.

The Blues’ midfield is currently lacking in originality. And losing Kovacic would be a major blow. The 28-year-old is a master at dribbling through traffic and propelling his team forward from the center of the field.

To lose a player of his calibre to a competitor is terrible. To have any shot at winning the Premier League in the next seasons, Chelsea must strengthen its core players rather than adding new players from the outside.

In the next months, it will be exciting to watch whether Manchester City makes a profitable bid for the 28-year-old. Yet, even if bids were to come in, Chelsea would be very unlikely to consider them since they would be selling a player who has been a leader on the field and in the locker room.

Ilkay Gundogan, a key player for the Premier League powerhouses, will be leaving at the conclusion of the current campaign. The German midfielder’s contract is set to expire this summer, making him a free agent. Guardiola must find a suitable replacement, and the Chelsea star appears to be a great choice.
