Liverpool’s hopes of acquiring RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol have been boosted by reports that he is interested in a transfer to the Premier League.
CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs has been talking to Caught Offside regarding Gvardiol’s future, and he claims that this is the case. According to Jacobs, Gvardiol is not set to join Real Madrid this summer.
The reason for this is that Gvardiol is keen on joining the Premier League and is willing to put it ahead of a transfer to Real Madrid. Even though Lionel Messi led the Croatian star astray, he still performed well for his team in the World Cup in Qatar.
Liverpool is likely itching to make a bid for Gvardiol, who will have no shortage of Premier League admirers.
In February, Rudy Galetti said that there had been “increasing whispers” that Liverpool would attempt to recruit Gvardiol for a stunning £80 million this summer.
With Gvardiol’s enthusiasm for Liverpool, the Reds might be in a good bargaining position. In January, Gvardiol said that playing for Liverpool would be his “dream” since he and his dad are huge Reds fans.
When compared to rival Premier League teams like Chelsea or even Manchester City, the 21-year-old star player is likely to choose the Reds.
The Reds’ persistent interest in Gvardiol suggests they may soon have a new left-footed central defender to anchor their back line at Anfield.
In just this past week alone, names like Levi Colwill, Nayef Aguerd, and Max Kilman have been bandied around, and rumours have even circulated that Liverpool had their eye on Benoit Badiashile, a recent addition to the Chelsea roster.
Considering that all of those defenders are left-footed in addition to Gvardiol, it’s possible that Jurgen Klopp may prioritize that position this summer. The whole back four of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez are right-footed, therefore Klopp may try to add a left-footer like Gvardiol to create more of a symmetrical defence.
