According to reports, Juventus has informed Wojciech Szczesny that he is free to leave the club this summer. Tottenham is allegedly interested in signing the Polish international.
CalcioMercato reports that the former Arsenal goalkeeper will depart Turin at the conclusion of the current campaign as Juventus seeks to bolster its goalkeeping options for the next season. Despite his ties to Arsenal, Tottenham is reportedly interested in acquiring Szczesny.
The 32-year-old is well-known as a fan of Arsenal, who has never been shy to poke fun at Tottenham after their on-field failures, but Spurs are now the frontrunners to recruit Szczesny as the goalkeeper is certain to leave Juventus.
Szczesny, who has a stellar record with Juventus and is widely regarded as one of Europe’s top goalkeepers, would make a great addition to Antonio Conte’s Tottenham squad. The goalkeeper’s commitment to Arsenal, though, might make a move very difficult.
Despite the fact that such details should not count in a transfer context, Szczesny’s 11-year tenure at Arsenal, during which he made 181 appearances and helped the team win two FA Cups and place in the top four often, does matter here for Tottenham.
But, with Szczesny leaving Juventus, the Polish number one may be left with few other choices. The 32-year-old goalkeeper is excellent, so Spurs probably won’t be the only team interested in signing him during the summer transfer window.
Although loyalty is rare in modern sport, it seems that former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has a strong affinity for the red side of north London, which might make a move to Tottenham very unlikely. Despite the fact that Szczesny would be a perfect fit for Tottenham and would thrive in the Premier League, a transfer is unlikely due to the goalkeeper’s ties to Arsenal and the fact that the Polish international is confident he can secure a move to another top European club during the upcoming summer transfer window.
