Game-Changing Transfer Gambit: Barcelona’s Sneaky Move Leaves Real Madrid Scrambling in Free Agent Chase
When it comes to recruiting Roberto Firmino this summer, reports indicate that La Liga winners Barcelona have a little edge over Real Madrid. The Liverpool attacker will be a free agent at the end of the season and has shown interest in a move.
It has been claimed that both Barcelona and Real Madrid will be shopping for a backup centre striker this summer. Robert Lewandowski (age 34) and Karim Benzema (age 35) have both put up solid numbers this year, but their respective clubs have lacked a consistent backup.
Furthermore, Benzema has had trouble staying FIT and has only played in 22 La Liga games so far this season. Considering his age, this is to be expected. So, Florentina Perez and Joan Laporta are on the lookout for a cheap, flexible striker who won’t mind playing second fiddle. Roberto Firmino of Liverpool is a viable alternative.
The 31-year-old has long shown his ability to score goals and has revolutionised the false nine position. His ability to create space for himself and others via link-up play is also remarkable. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid would benefit from signing Firmino, who has won the Champions League and the Premier League.
Nail-Biting Battle: Barcelona’s Edge Over Real Madrid in Pursuit of 31-Year-Old Free Agent Revealed
El Nacional reports that Barcelona is in a better position than Real Madrid to sign the Brazilian. Los Blancos like him since he is similar to Benzema. However, the Blaugrana are apparently making more of an effort to get Firmino at this time.

According to SPORT, Real Madrid is more likely to acquire Joao Cancelo this summer, while the Blaugrana have a better chance of signing Roberto Firmino.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Joao Cancelo had a falling out during the winter transfer window, leading to the Portuguese forward being loaned out to Bayern Munich for the remainder of the season. The Portuguese left-back has performed well but has not been able to win over the club’s upper management.
Cancelo’s permanent transfer to Bayern Munich from Manchester City this summer is quite doubtful. He looks to have played himself out of a spot on the City roster and will need to find a new team for next season.
Since Cancelo has the potential to be one of the top full-backs in the world when on form, Manchester City is expected to ask for roughly €70 million.
Barcelona is interested in signing him for next season as a right defender but, for financial reasons, would prefer a loan arrangement. Real Madrid understands their predicament and is open to discussing a permanent deal with Manchester City.
