For the vacant management position at Leeds United, Jeff Stelling has proposed Rafael Benitez. Sky Sports News’ Soccer Saturday host thinks that former Everton, Liverpool, and Newcastle United manager Benitez would be a suitable fit for Leeds United.
After firing Jesse Marsch, the West Yorkshire team is looking for a new manager. The current form of Leeds has them in serious risk of being demoted from the Premier League to the Championship at the conclusion of the season.
We think that Rafael Benitez would be a fantastic choice for Leeds United’s interim manager. Why wait until the end of the season before asking Benitez whether he’d be interested in taking over as Leeds’ manager?
The former manager of the Spanish giant, Real Madrid, may be tempted by the opportunity to lead Leeds for the next few months.
Stelling is right that Benitez’s resume looks great. After all, if you are not a competent manager, you won’t be given the opportunity to lead teams like Liverpool, Inter Milan, Chelsea (interim), Real Madrid, Newcastle, and Everton.
Throughout his managerial career thus far, Benitez has won many important trophies, including the La Liga championship with Valencia, the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool, and the UEFA Europa League with Chelsea.
Remember that Benitez led Newcastle back up from the Championship after they had been relegated there. While Leeds’ current top focus must be ensuring their Premier League status, Benitez’s defensive style of play is a given.
Leeds now have Michael Skubala as their manager, and although former Liverpool and Everton player Don Hutchison thinks Skubala should remain in place, we think that Benitez would be a preferable choice given his immediate availability.
