Bukayo Saka withdrew from the England squad due to injury
England winger Bukayo Saka has withdrawn from the national side due to an injury suffered in the hamstring. The English Football Association on Monday announced the same after conducting a medical assessment at England’s St George’s Park base. The 22-year-old had undergone a series of examinations by the English doctors to confirm his unavailability on the national side for their next few games.
“Having missed Arsenal’s Premier League win against Manchester City on Sunday through injury, Saka was assessed by the England medical team and it was decided that the player would continue his rehabilitation at his club,” the English Football Association (FA) said in a statement. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta also revealed after the match against Manchester City that Saka would not be joining up with England for the upcoming international break.
Saka likely to miss his next few international encounters due to injury
Bukayo Saka has withdrawn his name from the England squad after suffering a hamstring injury. He is most likely to miss Friday’s friendly clash against Australia and a Euro 2024 qualifier versus Italy on the following Tuesday, both at Wembley. The English Football Association announced this after conducting a few medical examinations.
Saka has suffered quite a few minor injuries while playing for Chelsea and was forced off in the most recent game against Lens. Arteta, when asked about the condition of the winger, stated: “No, he couldn’t make it. He hasn’t had a single training session so he will be out. He’s not available to play football at the moment.”
Saka joins Luke Shaw, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Tyrone Mings, Callum Wilson, and Eberechi Eze on England’s injury list. The England manager has opted not to call upon in-form Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling to replace the Arsenal man.
The 22-year-old has already made 30 appearances for his national side and also has 11 international goals beside his name. He made his international debut back in 2020 against Wales. In 2023, Saka was named England Men’s Player of the Year for a second successive season
Saka made his club career debut with Arsenal back in 2018. He appeared in only one instance that season. Saka has made a total of 189 appearances for Arsenal and has scored on 43 occasions. He is also considered one of the best young players in the world.
