Joakim Maehle, currently a wingback in Atlanta’s squad is on the verge of signing for Bundesliga club Wolfsburg. The Danish footballer has shown his interest in moving to the German league club Wolfsburg which offered a fee of €12 million to the 26-year-old. The deal is now closing, with Atlanta showing their acceptance by not playing him in the friendly match. The 26-year-old had impressed many with his performance in the Euros in 2021 but his inconsistency with Atlanta made his way out for a successful transfer to clubs like Juventus who were interested in the wing-back footballer.
Joakim Maehle to leave Atlanta for Wolfsburg:
The 26-year-old wing-back was in talks with quite a few teams this summer. Bournemouth were interested in signing the wing-back up until yesterday but Wolfsburg now seem to have made the final move to sign the 26-year-old into their side for this summer.
According to reports, Wolfsburg is close to an agreement with Atalanta after offering €12 million. Atlanta has also shown interest in accepting the offer as the same has not played the winger in their most recent friendly match.
The 1997-born Danish footballer started his career with AaB in his early days as a youth. At the age of 19, he was transferred to the senior team and made his debut for AaB on 7 August 2016. Maehla earned a contract with AaB till 2020 but the club negotiated with a Belgian club Genk to make a successful transfer in 2017. He made 25 appearances for AaB and also scored 1 goal.
Maehle made his debut for Genk on 29 July 2017 in the first league match of the season against Waasland-Beveren as a substitute player. He made 126 appearances for the Belgium club scoring six goals before leaving the club in 2020 to join Serie A club Atlanta.
Maehle signed for Atalanta on a five-year contract for a fee of €10 million leaving Genk in 2020. His transfer was made official in January 2021. Maehla had a good time in Atlanta in his tenure of three years. He made 96 appearances and scored 6 goals.
Maehla also earned his place in the national side and performed well in the Euros in 2021. He made a total of 37 appearances for Denmark in these four years scoring 9 international goals and assisting 6 times.
