After reports surfaced that Antonio Conte will be departing Spurs at the end of the season as manager, Gary Neville addressed the matter on The Overlap.

The Italian’s name keeps coming up in transfer rumours away from Spurs, and it has been said that he is already planning his leave from the club at the season’s conclusion.

Contrary to what many may think, Neville thinks Conte should remain in his current role as manager of Tottenham. According to the expert, Conte has no better options than Spurs at the moment since he is not attractive enough to the top teams in England or Europe.

Neville commented on Conte’s performance.

“Where is Antonio Conte going to go at this moment in time where he hasn’t been before? I think Tottenham can stand strong with the players they’ve signed and the position they’re in. I don’t think Conte can go to a better club in Europe. He’s not going to Barcelona, he’s not going to Real Madrid, he’s not going to Bayern Munich, he’s not going to any other club in England, he’s not going to United or Liverpool. I think he’s at the best club he can be at,” Neville said.

In spite of the fact that Conte is arguably one of the top managers in the world, his esteem has never been worse. He’s gaining a reputation as disloyal, and Spurs haven’t had great success in recent months.

If he left Tottenham, he probably wouldn’t be immediately snapped up by Europe’s top, and he could have to settle for a mediocre position at best.

It’s possible that Neville is correct in saying that Conte is now at a disadvantage compared to Spurs.
